Mayors’ Charity Roundtables (social/affordable housing)

Building Tomorrow Together - unlocking the delivery of social and affordable housing in Manchester.

Russ and I joined a fascinating roundtable last week by GGMC and Fran Darlington, which aims to unlock the delivery of social housing and genuinely affordable housing.

The roundtable series intends to drill down to genuinely implementable solutions, bringing together expertise across Manchester and construction.

Thank you Mayor Paul Dennett for an eye-opening introduction to proceedings together with key insights on both the scale of the challenge.

It highlighted the opportunity for the GM community to pull together to identify and implement solutions that will fundamentally change the dynamic and rhetoric on this crucial issue.

The topics of conversation were thought-provoking, actionable and wide-ranging including:

  • The changes to NPPF

  • Construction methodologies

  • Technology innovation

  • Skills and resources

  • Sustainability and Net Zero

  • Land availability and funding

Communication and collaboration between the private and public sectors are crucial if we are to make demonstrable progress in the immediate future.

Key decisions that lead to success simply cannot be made in a vacuum.

It’s brilliant to see #GMMayorsCharity taking the lead and opening the conversation up to the wider GM community.

Special thanks to Fran Darlington-Pollock, Charlotte Cordingley at Clear Futures and Johanna Crabb and Rosanna Webb at Aecom for the event. It was great to see everyone and make meaningful steps towards finding solutions to such an important issue.
